    KIDS + ARTS = AMAZING!

Top 3 Reasons that  KIDS + ARTS = AMAZING!

    1. When kids are doing art, they smile! At least once… they just can’t help it.
    2. They have fresh approaches, are honest in their thoughts and opinions, and love to express their individuality…. and enjoy when they can do that without being judged.
    3. Art making activities give them a chance to relax, connect with others around them (regardless of race, age, or gender), and start to feel a glowing sense of pride in themselves as they create, almost as if you can see them thinking… “Wow, I did that. That’s pretty cool!” or “Well, that’s not what I meant to do, but wow, I like it!”

Throughout February and March this year, over 500 students from Moore Magnet Elementary School (5th grade) and Carter G. Woodson School of Excellence (K – 8th grade) with wide eyes and curious minds, visited the Delta Arts Center where they listened to historical quilt stories, eagerly used their keen sense of sight to find hidden patterns on a scavenger hunt through the many quilts in the gallery, put their math and creative skills to work to make their own quilt squares, and toured the gallery and gift shop. For many of them, it was their first time in an art gallery!

All of these great kids, brought a fresh burst of young, creative energy to the Delta Arts Center! They worked together, laughed together, and several of the upper grade classes even created a collective class quilt bringing together their individual quilt squares into one big, beautiful quilt to hang proudly at their school.

Now that the gallery has quieted down a bit again, it feels much like the weeks after all the hustle and bustle is over and the crowds of friends and family from reunion dinners or holiday parties have dispersed… Calm, but with a certain JOY still flowing through the air and a happy ENERGY still pulsing from the walls… still lingering from all the FUN we had!
